STEER Terms of Service

STEER is a marketplace that connects boat owners with licensed captains. When you book a captain through STEER, you agree to pay the full trip amount by card through the STEER checkout. STEER holds the payment securely and pays the captain their share only after the trip is marked complete, keeping a 2% service fee.

Captains and customers who first connect through STEER agree to book and pay for services through STEER for 12 months after the date they first connect. This keeps payments protected, captains verified, and ensures STEER can support both parties if anything goes wrong.

To protect both parties, contact details (phone numbers, email addresses, websites, and social media) are hidden until a booking is paid. Before a booking is paid, STEER’s messaging automatically blocks attempts to share contact details or arrange payment outside the app (including via Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, cash, or direct calls).

Accounts that repeatedly try to take bookings or payments off the STEER platform, or that break the 12-month exclusivity agreement, may be suspended. Captains must also connect a valid payout account before their profile can go live and accept paid bookings.
